| Set against the majestic Andes Mountain Range, Mendoza is a beautiful land of sun and wine and culture. Here, we marry a tradition of artisan viticulture with an innovative, modern winemaking philosophy to produce Mountain Door Malbec. In Argentina a system of small vine grower families, with more than 50 years of experience working and living with grapevines, tend the land. This unique and harmonious system of viticulture guarantees that painstaking care is taken with each plant and every grape. Our fruit is then crafted into wine in meticulous, state of the art facilities implementing modern, New World philosophy. Our vineyards consisting of over 200 acres of old vines, some up to 60 years of age, are located 850 meters above sea level, in the Barrancas region, department of Maipu, Mendoza. Here, a distinct micro climate of stony alluvial soils from glacial rivers make wines of exceptional quality with an intense concentration of aromas. Scarce precipitation and strong sunlight produce especially healthy fruit. Warm days and cool nights are characteristic; wide diurnal shift (temperature range within 24 hour day) provide juicy acidity, excellent color and intense fresh fruit aromas and tannins. Our Mountain Door label was painted by Santa Fe artist Patrick McFarlin and depicts the beautiful landscape of rural Mendoza, with a cottage-like bodega rendered in the rich colors of the Argentine flag. The wine within the bottle offers generous flavors that reflect the richness of the painting?ripe and polished, with a plush core of plum, blackberry, raspberry, morello cherries, violets and mocha. Its a wine made for grilled meats, salmon, pasta and, of course, empanadas. |
