| ?2015 was a vintage in which we could draw on unlimited resources,? Fred said when we met in September in Vienna. Although he lost ten hectares in Gobelsburg due to hail on the 6th of May, the grapes he harvested were ?perfectly ripe and healthy. ? ?The summer was dry and warm,? he said, ?but in August the temperatures were rather moderate and there was some rain, so that the wines are ripe and potent but not really ?hot. ?? Loimer added that ?we could realize many ideas, for example extended maceration times even with our Langenlois Veltliner, spontaneous fermentations, own yeast selections, long aging on the full lees without the addition of SO2, etc. ? He finds his 2015s ?ripe and juicy and stimulating due to the beautiful freshness. ? |

| Born into a winemaking family, Fred Loimer Jr. realized early on that he would have a future in the winemaking business. Following his formal education and experiences abroad working for other wineries, he returned to his family?s winery in Langenlois, where he utilized his newly gained experience - something that didn´t always please his father. In 1998, one year after the winery was handed over from father to son; Loimer bought a historical vaulted brick cellar, a former cellar of the Haindorf Castle, in the middle of the grapevines between Langenlois and Zobing. With the help of the architect Andreas Burghardt, he renovated the cellar adding a minimalist building above to serve as the tasting room and office. Since 1999, the wines have been vinified and stored in the historical cellar under perfect, natural temperature conditions. Moreover, the Veltliners and Rieslings from single vineyard sites are ranked amongst the best wines of Austria and the wine world. |
