CELLAR SELECTION
Buttered berries, bitter rhubarb, bergamot, wet sage and pencil lead comprise another fascinating nose from Bryan Babcok's twist on the Radian Vineyard. The mouthfeel is lush and the flavors quite complicated, with black licorice, cinnamon-laced tea, fennel bulb and underripe blackberries. Boasting a nice tannic structure, this is drinking great right now, but hold off till 2020 for supreme sipping.

My favorite in the lineup, the 2012 Pinot Noir Radical is a smoking Pinot Noir that comes from blocks 40 and 41 of the cool, windswept and steep Radian Vineyard. Showing fabulous purity, with classic blackberry, strawberry, toasted spice and subtle floral nuances, this beautifully textured 2012 has medium-bodied richness, a seamless, layered mouthfeel and a clean, focused finish that stays fresh and lively. Already hard to resist, it should nevertheless evolve gracefully. It's a superb wine.

Everything that a winemaker looks for in a great terroir is in these adjacent sections (Blocks 40 & 41) at the Radian Vineyard. This bottling is huge, and I suspect that this is how it will always be from this extraordinary site. Describing its wines is almost futile, they are so complex.
