Wine Advocate Review
Rated 92
The 2013 The Pact is Cabernet Sauvignon from primarily Coombsville and Rutherford, but some other small lots are in the blend, according to winemaker Charles Thomas, who has an impressive resumé, having worked at Rudd Estate as well as Robert Mondavi. The wine ratchets up the levels of richness, displaying a deep purple color and notes of pen ink, crème de cassis and vanilla in a medium to full-bodied, impressive style. It is meant to be drunk now and over the next 15 or so years.

The Pact honors one of the most famous agreements in literature - the pivotal moment when Dr. Faust trades his soul for renewed passion and youth. It also speaks to Agustin's belief in Coombsville and all that it has to offer - power, complexity and elegance.

Blackberry, cassis, blueberry, ripe raspberry, vanilla and sandalwood notes. The entry is supple and silky tannin are classic Combsville and harmonize with prominent tannins of Rutherford, Atlas Peak and Mt. Veeder. A rich, full-bodied, decadent wine that you can drink now or age for another 10-15 years.
