Another highlight, the 2015 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard brings together so many of the elements that make Tensley's Syrahs so compelling. Intense in its aromatics and palate feel, the 2015 hits all the right notes. Sweet red cherry, rose petal, raspberry jam and a dollop of French oak are some of the signatures. Because of the low yields, the new oak is a bit high in 2015, but all the elements are very nicely married. The Colson Canyon is shaping up to be another gem from Joey Tensley. (Antonio Galloni)

The darkest colored in the lineup and from tiny yields, the 2015 Syrah Colson Canyon Vineyard sports a glass-staining purple color to go with rugged, sage brush, wild herbs and purple fruit characteristics. It has plenty of tannin, and is less obviously sweet than the 2014.

There's plenty of power and torque in this inky red, with aromas of ripe blueberry, tar and licorice opening to complex flavors of smoky plum and peppered beef. The tannins are big but refined. Drink now through 2027.

This rugged vineyard always delivers some of darkest, most extracted wines Tensley produces. After three years of drought, the vintage gave them that big extraction and then some. Look for notes of black plums and blackberries as well as vanilla, black and white pepper and smoked meats. This Colson is drinking well now but will continue to age nicely over the next 10 to 12 years.
