Daou Soul of a Lion Paso Robles Cabernet 2014 Rated 96WE CELLAR SELECTION cab970
Wine Enthusiast Review
A sultry shade of dark purple, this luxury bottling by the Daou brothers shows freshly smashed black currant, gravelly minerality, black pepper, espresso and shaved chocolate on the nose. The palate is black to the core, from blueberry to dark chocolate to lava rocks, with strong yet polished tannins and wel-balanced acidity. Decant now or drink 2020–2035.
Wine Advocate Review
This wine is a blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Soul Of A Lion has a gorgeous red and black currants nose with underlying earth, cinnamon stick, cigar box, cloves and sautéed herbs suggestions. Full-bodied, rich, concentrated and yet possessing great finesse, it possesses beautiful, fine-grained tannins and a lively backbone, finishing with persistent perfumed fruit layers. Drink 2017-2034
In the glass, this wine appears inky-black with a velvety core; however, on the nose, you are treated to the lightness of fresh violets, crushed blueberries, and cocoa. Complexity is confirmed on the palate with a combination of ripe blueberries and blackberries dusted with hints of cedar, tobacco, spice, and ash. Bright acidity, firm tannins, and moderate alcohol create a balanced structure with a long and seamless finish hinting of toasted vanilla and hazelnuts. Made from the best vines on DAOU Mountain, this wine beautifully showcases the characteristics of Cabernet Sauvignon as a varietal.
