Albert Seltz, the Seltz family?s 14th generation owner and winemaker, oversees an estate in the heart of Mittelbergheim, in Alsace?s Bas-Rhin region. Albert took the reins from his father in 1980 (at only 19 years old), and immediately reduced his estate?s production by two thirds and converted to organic agricultural practices. In the cellar, he practices minimal intervention by fermenting with indigenous yeasts and ages the wine sur-lie. He grows Sylvaner, Riesling, Pinot Auxerrois, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and Gewurztraminer. Albert is known for his love of Sylvaner and was instrumental in the AOC?s creation of an official Grand Cru Zotzenberg Sylvaner in 2005.
