Featured in The 1001 Whiskies to try before you die book The 7th edition release of Arran Machrie Moor malt peated to 20ppm and this is the best release yet and as always natural colour and non chill filtered. Nose: Singed straw, preserved lemons and limes, smoked porridge oats, sooty & peppery earthy notes, wet sand by the coast, mossy green apples and pears, salty/minerally notes, quince jelly. Palate: Key lime pie, preserved lemons, smoked quince jelly, ripe pear, apple bon bons, salted vanilla fudge, marzipan, white pepper spice, green herbs, and green peppers, aniseed. Finish: Mossy and herbal, peppery vanilla oak, quince, ripe pear over sooty peat smoke, green herbs, salted lime, sugared almonds. Impressive depth and the array of flavours here have gone up a notch since the last release, really wish Arran would release more peated single malts on the evidence of this.
