Wine maker notes Madeleine was the niece of Baron Louis and also my grandmother. I have dedicated this cuvee to her memory also because she did a lot for Montfaucon. Madeleine had a strong personality; she managed the estate by herself for over 60 years. This white wine is made in the same spirit as Baron Louis and with a lot of delicacy. All the grapes (Marsanne, Viognier, Clairette, Grenache Blanc and Picpoul) are picked by hand in 20 kg cases and pressed directly. I let the juice settle naturally for ten to twenty hours before racking it into oak barrels where the wine ferments naturally without temperature control. The idea is to respect the natural expression of the vineyard with minimum intervention. The wine ages eight months in barrels before bottling.
Producer Montfaucon is located opposite to Chateauneuf-du-Pape, just across the Rhone River. Our vineyards are spread out between Montfaucon and the two neighbouring towns, Roquemaure and St Genies de Comolas. The original 18 hectares (1995) of vineyards have grown to 45 hectares by planting new vineyards and by buying old ones. Our vines are up to 90 years old with an average age of 40 years. All the vineyards are farmed at low yields (between 25 to 42 hl/ha).
