Established in the Middle Ages, the village of Pernand Vergelesses is situated in the North of the Cote de Beaune between Aloxe Corton to the East and Savigny les Beaune to the South-East. The vineyards cover the sloping valleys and lie on and between two facing hillsides with different exposures: to the East, South and West. The vines grow at altitudes between 260 and 380 meters above sea level. The prestigious white wine of the appellation Corton Charlemagne is partially in the village of Pernand. Some even refer to it as the ”petit” Corton Charlemagne. Producer Champy is a small family run business. The company’s principle is not to grow significantly, but being a boutique negociantto consistently producing artisanal wines with continued aim to express the nuances of the Burgundian terroirs. Founded in 1720, Champy is both the first established wine house of Burgundy and a pioneer of the Burgundy vineyard for its rational practice of organic and sustainable farming methods.
