Producer We’ve been seeking to understand the Caipirinha for years. We’ve toured the best bars in Brazil and the United States and watched hundreds of the Americas’ leading bartenders make this classic drink, possibly the world’s most popular cocktail by consumption. In the end, we realized that we were looking in the wrong places. The Caipirinha is a drink developed by the people of Brazil, and not by any particular bartender. It serves an emotional purpose in the lives of hundreds of millions of people. To understand how to properly make a Caipirinha, one must first understand what is is, where it comes from, and what purpose it serves. Redirecting our research to the common Brazilian consumer and telling this story of ”purpose before technique” became our task. One day in 2012, we got together with four Seattle bartenders to chat about this in front of the cameras. We started with a script, which got tossed out the window as soon as the group got together. We then moved the stage set to the bar, had a drink or two, and at that point our various stories and opinions of this drink came out candidly.
