Each year, from small lots of fruit grown in the red rocky soil of our vineyard on Pritchard Hill, we choose just the best barrels and blend them together to create the new vintage of OVID NAPA VALLEY. The vineyard’s evolution fascinates us – with each succeeding vintage, new dimensions of the wines are revealed. OVID is a blend of the four Bordeaux varietals grown here: Cabernet Sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot & Petit Verdot, varying in proportion from year to year but always eloquently conveying this special place.

| Ovid appears to be in very good hands following itsacquisition by the Duncan family. Jack Bittner, whom I first met when he was at Cliff Lede, is running the estate, while Austin Peterson continues to make the wines. Peterson, who has been at Ovid since the second vintage, is one of the most thoughtful and introspective young winemakers in Napa Valley. In recent years, Peterson has dialed back the style of these wines just a touch. | Ovid [Publius Ovidius Naso] was a Roman poet who lived from 43 BC - 17 AD. His most famous work, Metamorphoses, is a poetic retelling of the Greek myths, celebrating the themes of transformation and change. Since winemaking is about transformation from grapes to something more sublime, that forms one connection. Our admiration for the art and culture of the Romans, who had so much figured out so long ago, forms another. The works of Ovid, rich and timely yet steeped in tradition, continue to speak to us. We aim to embody our classical theme in everything we do. We value long-lasting relationships and sustainable methods in farming and winemaking, all with the goal of creating a wine estate that will endure and flourish. |
