This is the latest Ardbeg Committee release, and its a deep dive into cask charring. The distillery removed the heads from Ardbeg ex-bourbon casks, scoured them to expose more wood during the toasting process, and ultimately charred the barrels to what it calls a high mocha before filling them with Ardbeg new-make. According to director of distilling and whisky creation Dr. Bill Lumsden, this results in a dram that melds sweet, smoke, herbaceousness, and spice.
