This 100 % Sauvignon Blanc from the storied Domaine Alphonse Mellotset on south- to southwest-facing Kimmeridgian marl (caillottes) near Sancerreexhibits a pale gold hue edged with green. The nose opens with elegant white-flower aromas and bright citrus (lemon peel, grapefruit), underpinned by fine minerality and a subtle herbal breeze. On the palate it is lively and sculpted, with crisp yet supple texture, vibrant acidity, and a clean, persistent finish. The oak treatment is well integrated (about one-third of fermentation/aging in new demi-muids) which adds nuance without overpowering the varietal purity. While enjoyable now, the wine has the finesse and structure to evolve over the next 5-8+ years. Pair it with shellfish, truite meuniere, chanterelles or a fresh goat-cheese crottin for ideal harmony.
