Metaxa 12 Star is a premium Greek spirit produced by The House of Metaxa in Athens, which has been blending distinctive Greek brandy-and-wine expressions since 1888. Metaxa doesn't fit neatly into the cognac or brandy category—it's its own Greek classification, built from a blend of aged Muscat wines from the islands of Samos and Lemnos together with grape distillates matured in French Limousin oak casks. The 12 Star grade represents the upper end of Metaxa's regular lineup, with the oldest distillates aged for twelve years or more. The nose is opulent and unmistakably Greek: raisin, dried apricot, honeyed Muscat grape, rose petal, and warm oak spice with a whisper of almond. The palate is rich and silky—candied orange peel, fig, toffee, and gentle baking spice—carried by the Muscat wine's floral sweetness and rounded by long oak maturation. The finish is long, elegant, and subtly spiced, with returning fruit and a soft oak fade. Serve Metaxa 12 Star neat in a brandy snifter, on the rocks with a strip of orange peel, or in modern Mediterranean cocktails. A natural after-dinner sipper and a strong gift pick.
