Grape: Pinot Noir Tasting notes: Red Cherry, Raspberry, Earth, Nutmeg In 1973, Nicholas Molnar planted Poseidon Vineyard at the southern extreme of Napa Carneros on a volcano, on a ridge of solid black Obsidian glass. Obsidian farms wines on both ends of the Mayacamas Range in California, and cooper their barrels from the forests of Tokaj, Hungary. This quintessential Carneros Pinot Noir, in its lighter color and translucence, is made from a single block with particularly gravelly soils. Following fermentation, it's aged 11 months on lees in oversized Hungarian oak vessels (15% new) to add spice, weight, and complexity. Fresh, approachable, delicate, intricate, medium-bodied, and clean with lively acidity and easy tannins. Flavors of rose petals, earth, clove, nutmeg, red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and blackberry, with some tea leaf and herbal notes, will be detected. Try it with grilled rib lamb chops.
