Grignolino is one of the great sleeper grapes of Piedmont--and frankly, thats probably for the best. This is a grape variety where each berry is loaded with monster piths that are easily squashed under the load of a traditional wine press or less than conscientious winemaking. That said, in the hands of a master winemaker the resulting wines are bright, high-tone and marked with very pretty aromas of wildflowers, roses, and sweet spice. A The Piedmont Guy import, the Miraja is pretty much textbook--marked by all the trappings of pure, concentrated Grignolino and marked with distinct minerality to boot. Only around 500 cases are produced annually. A flawless accompaniment with risotto, bitter root veggies, or poached salmon. --Codey Foster, Wine Director
