Jeanne Gaillard, who has been working the vineyards of her family's estate in Rhone Valley since she was a child, acquired her first vineyard parcels independent of her father, and started to bottle her own wine. 13 years later, the "Terres de Mandris" comes from vineyards rich in granite just outside of the hallowed Crozes-Hermitage appellation. Like a good Crozes, aromas of rich blue fruits waft from the glass, complemented by a pleasant gaminess, violets, and a hint of smoke. The wine is sturdy and rich on the palate, with savory elements intertwined with blue and black fruits and leather. The finish is long and supple, featuring plenty of earth and herbs, but without too much tannin getting in the way. Beautiful! Food Pairings: Rack of Lamb, Spareribs, Smoked Eggplant
