Marlborough, better known for its veritable sea of grapefruity Sauvignon Blanc, is actually a great place to grow Pinot Gris! Its long diurnal swings, lengthy summers, and dryness are ideal for Alpine varieties, a fact certain to be further exploited and explored as the regions relatively young wine industry ages. But no need to wait! Peter Yealands has already begun that advancement with this delightful little sustainably farmed Pinot Gris! Pleasantly crisp with tart, green apple appeal and an undercurrent of fleshy ripe nectarine and a low tone of toasty lees, this is a pretty precise approximation of the aromatic, Teutonic Pinot Gris of northern Europe, but with an unmistakably New Zealand stamp. Thus, it represents a layup of a pairing for the Thanksgiving meal (like its Alsatian and Germanic cousins). Yealands Pinot Gris does not taste a mere $12, but somehow it is! Food Pairings: Fried Artichokes, Harissa Chicken Wrap with Halloumi, Cheese Fondue
