The 2015 Chianti Colli Senesi Berardenga is a tonic, almost crunchy red wine with an impressive level of fruit purity. Remember that part of the Sangiovese blend that makes the iconic Toscana IGT Fontalloro sees fruit sourced from this very same site. This property in the Chianti Colli Senesi appellation produces fruit that is linear, crisp and bright. The vines are getting old enough now to show more nuanced complexity in their fruit. This is a very interesting wine that will drink beautifully for the upcoming years.
the Chianti Colli Senesi shows the wilder side of Sangiovese. Dark cherry, game, smoke, leather and savory herbs open up in a pleasing, hearty Chianti Colli Senesi to drink over the next handful of years. With time in the glass it opens up nicely. It will be interesting to see what time brings for Felsina's newest baby. The Colli Senesi is aged entirely in Slavonian oak casks.
