The 2018 Russian River Valley Zinfandel is a blend of old vine Zinfandel and a touch of Petite Sirah from the orange, iron-rich soil of Ponzo Vineyard. The Zinfandel on its own is fruity and jammy and Petite Sirah brings in complementary dark fruit flavors and density, resulting in a blend that is full-bodied and well-structured. Powerful spice aromas of cracked cinnamon sticks and black peppercorns mingle with ripe plum aromas and hints of mint chocolate. This full-bodied wine is soft on entry with a texture similar to that of milk chocolate. Ripe plums, cherry cordials and black currants show through on a rich and supple palate. The finish is long and persistent, embodied by dark fruits and baking spices.
