Their most limited cuvée for true connoisseurs, and also the warmest site of the three coastal vineyards, is the 2014 Pinot Noir Clos du Ciel. This is a vineyard planted on clay with a lot of rocks and basalt. The result is a Pinot Noir with plenty of earth, firm tannins, a touch of underbrush, spring flowers, and loads of raspberries and black cherry fruit. The acids seem well-integrated and the tannins moderate, but fine. All of these Pinot Noirs have at least 15 years of life left.
The 2014 Clos du Ciel is exceptional, offering elegance, complexity and richness coupled with long-term ageability. It presents a red-ruby hue tinged with subtle purple accents. The nose is filled with aromas of raspberry liqueur, black cherry, strawberry, sandalwood, and leather accents. Balanced and rich in the mouth, notes of delicate red forest fruit, clove, hazelnut and violet are accented by earth and game components. The texture is sensual, silky and stylish with an impressive length. This wine will require a couple years of cellaring to develop its bouquet and remarkable potential.
