Ignacio Blancas blends Checkmate from his top barrels in Summers' cellar, in this case, a selection of cabernet sauvignon from Tamagni, a vineyard with rocky, volcanic soil adjacent to Three Palms on the valley floor; he includes small amounts of merlot, petit verdot and cabernet franc from estate vineyards in Calistoga and Knights Valley. It's a smooth, generously rich cabernet from the warm upper Valley, dark in tone, needing bottle age to develop complexity.
Full, round, richly flavored and balanced. Deep ripe fruit characters with hints of vanilla and spice. Finishes with rich but soft tannins with dark chocolate flavor and sweet mouth feel from the oak.
88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Merlot, 4% Petite Verdot, 4% Cabernet Franc
