Black pepper, blueberry pie, bacon fat, dried purple flowers and spit-roasted beef all make an appearance on the nose of this tasty wine. Those purple flowers further shine once sipped, as do the smoked meats, with dark spices and boysenberries playing strong notes as well.
Winemaker Adam Henkel comes to Westerly after eight vintages as an integral part of the winemaking team at Harlan Estate. As the Direct Assistant to the Winemaker and Cellar Master for Harlan Estate, Bond Estates, and Promontory, he became known for producing profound, character-driven wines in an environment where expectations were always at the highest level.
The Westerly Red presents a precise, focused mix of dried berry, currant, and black cherry notes. This is a balanced and finely-layered wine, with a rich, yet firm, tannin structure that fans out across the palate. Will drink at its peak from 2014 to 2018.
