Producer
The name Conti D?Arco derives from the noble family who owned the mediaeval castle atop the Arco rock that dominates the vineyards of the magnificent valley between Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites. The Gruppo Italiano Vini acquired the Conti D?Arco brand with its thousand-year history, and has signed a production agreement with the Mezzacorona Co-operative Winery, one of the most interesting producers in Trentino. Lying between Lake Garda and the Brenta Dolomites, Arco Castle dominates the valley from the top of a high cliff. The hills in this zone were chosen for the selection of prestigious varieties as far back as the Austro-Hungarian era. The history of this estate is entwined with that of the noble Conti d?Arco. The names Odorico, Vinciguerra, Prospero, and Andrea d?Arco are linked in events that have become legendary down the centuries. Often allied to other important families, such as the Gonzagas, and advisors to emperors, many of the Conti d?Arco were well-read, cultivated gentlemen, for example, poet and humanist Nicolo, and music lover, Giorgio, a friend of Mozart. The splendid castle and renaissance palaces of the town contain deep, cool cellars known as ?caneve? where the excellent wine taken in tithe was stored. The Conti d?Arco line proposes a series of Trentino DOC wines that are selected in the region?s best zones by oenologists who follow every phase of the production process from the vineyard to the bottle. With its ideal terrain and climate, Trentino also has a celebrated spumante tradition. The range therefore also includes Talento Trento DOCs, metodo classico spumantes for special occasions. The Gruppo Italiano Vini acquired the Conti d?Arco brand with its thousand-year history and set up a production agreement with the Mezzacorona Co-operative Winery, one of the most interesting wine producers in Trentino. The Mezzacorona members are at the forefront of cultivation and experimentation. They own over 20 percent of the vineyards in Trentino, all in the most prestigious zones. This enables the estate to control and select the grapes at source, guaranteeing the highest levels of quality.
