Alright, so you’ve probably never heard of the grape Tannat and most likely need to look at a map to find Uruguay. Rest assured: there are some truly remarkable wines we think you’ll love. Originally brought to the Southern Hemisphere, from France, by Basque settlers over a century ago, Uruguay has deemed Tannat their national grape. But, it took modern winemaking techniques to tame the firm tannins and intense fruit in this red beast. Tannats now coming out of Uruguay like the 2010 Bodegas Carrau Tannat Reserva are smooth, well balanced and full of delicious fruit. Due to its low profile, you can easily get a slammin’ bottle of Tannat for not a lot of cash (for now).
